Biography
Pai Min Htet is a Myanmar-born visual artist currently based in Paris, France. His artistic practice is deeply rooted in his personal life experiences and lived encounters, which serve as the primary catalyst for his creative expression. Working primarily within figurative painting, he is a concept-driven artist who continuously evolves his visual language through multiple media, including painting, photography, video art, and installation. His journey in visual storytelling began in 2013, working internationally across travel and candid photography, as well as directing video art and cinematic films. This extensive background in lens-based media has profoundly influenced how he constructs his compositions. While he has been painting since childhood, it was in 2017 that he formally established his career as a painter, launching series that explore the complex layers of the human condition. Pai Min Htet is an artist of constant exploration; he does not limit himself to a single style but instead seeks out new concepts and experimental series for each body of work. Each new series captures a distinct chapter of his life, merging inner emotional landscapes with external realities such as displacement, belonging, and the search for identity. In 2023, he earned his Master of Fine Arts (MFA) from Chiang Mai University, Thailand, where he deepened his engagement with Southeast Asian contexts and ecological narratives. His recent work reflects urgent global themes, including climate change and environmental fragility, emphasizing the delicate balance between human vulnerability and resilience. Having received international nominations and awards for his photography and video art, Pai Min Htet’s work has been exhibited across Asia and Europe. He is currently an Artist-in-Residence at the Cité internationale des arts (2025–2026), in partnership with the French Ministry of Culture, where he continues to push the boundaries of his interdisciplinary projects.
